A common interpretation of the Viking esoteric belief; if one fought valiantly they would be chosen after death on the battlefield by the Valkyrie for the halls of Valhalla. So to the Vikings one of the worst things would have been to die a straw death, a death of old age in bed, as their beds were made of straw. In order to go to their version of heaven, death on the battlefield was a requirement. They wished to Die Well and we wish the same. To die not selling our lives cheap because we have prepared and willing to die because we are unwilling to live with the alternative.
